Temporary graduate visa (Subclass 485) is issued to international students who finished their 2-year studies in Australia and wish to work there. This work visa allows graduates to have this visa once only for an eligible student. However, the 485 visa is for oversea students under the age of 50 who have completed a CRICOS Registered courses. Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, the replacement stream visa is available for current and former subclass 485 holders.
You must
- be under 50 years of age
- hold an eligible visa
- have held a student visa in the last 6 months
- have a recent qualification in a CRICOS-registered course
- nominate one stream only - it is not possible to change visa streams after apply
There are 2 streams to this Visa:
Graduate Work stream
You must
- Be under 50 years of age at the day you apply and first student application applied and granted before 05 Nov 2011
- Have completed your course in the 6 months immediately before the day you apply
- Held a student visa within the past 6 months before your application or you now hold a substantive visa or BVA or BVB on thebasis of a valid application for a visa
- Met the Australian study requirement* in the past 6 months before you applied for this visa
- Have skills and qualifications that Australia needs* (not required for applications lodged between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023)
- Meet English language proficiency with IELTS 6.0 in overall and not less than 5.0 in each item
- Have adequate health insurance (OVHC OR OSHC) and meet health and character requirements
Post-Study Work stream
- Be under 50 years of age at the day you apply and first student application applied and granted after 05 Nov 2011.
- Have completed your course in the 6 months immediately before the day you apply
- Hold an eligible qualification at degree-level and meet the Australian study requirement* in the past 6 months before apply
- Meet English language proficiency with IELTS 6.0 in overall and not less than 5.0 in each item
- Have adequate health insurance (OVHC OR OSHC) and meet health and character requirements
- Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused while in Australia
